Gentle and holistic approach to enhancing your overall wellbeing
Dry Needling
What Is Dry Needling?
Dry needling uses the same needles as acupuncture but is a slightly different approach. Acupuncture is Chinese medicine and dry needling is more western. Whilst acupuncture targets acupressure points and meridians, dry needling targets trigger points and fascia. East meets West on the same human body! Dry needling can be very effective at releasing stubborn trigger points and tight areas. The needle causes a muscle twitch which promotes the relaxation of it thus reducing pain and increasing range of motion. It also promotes blood flow to the area and thus promotes healing. The needles are very thin and often you won’t feel them. It is called ‘Dry’ needling because the needles are not injecting anything.
How Can Dry Needling Benefit You?
- Pain Relief: By releasing tight painful trigger points in muscles.
- Joint pain relief: by releasing tight muscles, fascia around a joint.
- Regain range of motion: by releasing tight muscles around a joint
- Lower back pain relief: this is often caused by tight gluteal muscles which can be released with needles.
Is Dry Needling Right For You?
Dry needling can work on most people but best avoided in young children, pregnant ladies, those with a compromised immune system and if you are taking blood thinners. If you are very afraid of needles (this is common) talk to your therapist about it so there is understanding.
