Massage Therapy
What Is Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy is a form of manual therapy that involves manipulating soft tissue in the body to reduce stress, ease muscle tension, promote relaxation, release tight fascia and promote blood flow. Sports massage is more of a targeted remedial style massage to Swedish and Aromatherapy style massages. Many people believe that sports massage has to hurt to be beneficial. This is not true and a good therapist will work closely with the client’s tolerances. There is no point causing more pain as this increases tension.
How Can Massage Therapy Benefit You?
- Pain Relief: To alleviate chronic pain, headaches, and musculoskeletal discomfort.
- Stress Reduction: To help induce a deep state of relaxation to reduce stress and tension.
- Improved Sleep: Enhance the quality of your sleep through relaxation.
- Mental benefits: such as depression, anxiety, stress reduction, more energy.
- Reduce affects of scar tissue
- Sports injuries: reduce the incidence of sports injuries and increase the healing rate.
Is Massage Therapy Right For You?
Massage therapy is safe and beneficial to everyone of all ages. A good massage can feel fantastic leaving you relaxed, de-stressed and with less pain. Having a regular massage can help you take charge of your health and wellbeing by preventing injuries. Finding the right therapist who listens to your needs is important, as some therapists may be too heavy handed causing more pain than benefit.
Some may believe that cancer patients shouldn’t have massage as there are myths associated with it. However, Katie is oncology massage trained so know that you are in safe hands. Find out more about oncology massage here.
Always talk with your therapist if you have any concerns. A good therapist will carry out a consultation before starting any treatment.

Testimonials That Speak Volumes
My name is Tom and I'm 75. I've been receiving treatment on my shoulder for a possibly related previous rotator cuff injury. On my first consultation I couldn't raise my arm above shoulder height without severe pain and had tingling in my fingers possible due to trapped nerves.
Katie did a full assessment of my injury and put together an exercise program that was really easy to follow, however she continued to research other possible causes and symptoms which meant varying the treatments.
After 6 one hour treatments which included amazing muscular massage and acupuncture the pain is now only minor and rotational movement is excellent.
Katie is most professional in her approach of understanding individual issues and I would fully recommend engaging her services. For decades I have had varying degrees of lower back pain and tried everything from injections to traction. I resigned myself to taking painkillers for many years. Recently the pain was more severe and I couldn't turn over in bed or get out of bed to go to the bathroom without it hurting. I was recommended to go to Katie by a family member after he had a serious back injury. Am I glad I did. After some weeks of intense treatment followed by monthly appointments and suggestions for exercises as well as advice on stress causing pain together with diet, I am now pain free and not taking any painkillers. If it reoccurs in the future I will have booster sessions. I have no hesitation in recommending Katie to anyone with back pain.
I’ve been seeing Katie for a while and the difference to my day to day life is absolutely incredible. I was not a cripple but suffered most days with back pain and aches. I had accepted that this was life. Katie challenged this in multiple ways. She didn’t just go through the motions and tried many ways to help. Also encouraging me to help myself. I can’t recommend Katie highly enough. A brilliant innovative professional service. From someone who has a passion for her job and wants too really help.
Went to Katie with very painful shoulder problems and after a few sessions I was well on the way to recovery. Very knowledgable and excellent service. Fully recommended.
