Meg was suffering with Osteoarthritis in her ankles and knees which was preventing her from doing what she loved doing - walking. She was starting to feel like an old woman and this dragged her down. Why is it that women in some cultures can carry heavy loads on their backs, hips and even their heads with no problem yet back pain seems to be a big problem in the Western World? Growing up in East Africa and now living in the UK, I have noticed huge differences and here's my theory.
The aim of this article is to explain the pros and cons of having a scan of your back if you are suffering with pain. The introduction of imagery scans has been incredible but it is important to approach these images with a pragmatic point of view. Understanding that pain does not always equal tissue damage and vice versa, scans do not always explain your pain and could in fact be detrimental.
